Dink Purcell's life is marked by his loving but troubled relationship with his father, a former boxing champion. Despite their squalid living conditions and his father's frequent gambling and drinking, Dink is fiercely loyal to Andy. When Andy wins a racehorse, he gives it to Dink, and they head to a Tijuana track. There, Dink meets Linda, a wealthy horse owner, and they form a strong bond. However, Linda's husband reveals that Dink is her son, whom she gave up years ago. As Andy's drinking problem worsens, he's forced to confront the consequences of his actions, and Dink must navigate his feelings for his mother and his loyalty to his father.
