In the heart of Greenwich Village, the Blue Jay gay bar is a sanctuary where patrons can be their authentic selves. The bar's cook, Sadie Holzer, describes the community as a chosen family, but not everyone is welcome. Lita Joyce, a self-proclaimed "fag hag," is actually a ball-buster seeking to prove her appeal to the opposite sex. She's determined to ruin the happiness of Scott, a pilot who fell for regular Terry, a graphic artist. Meanwhile, Jim Paine, a gay-for-pay hustler, and his sugar daddy, Marvin Hocker, plan a trip to Rome, hiding their true relationship from the community. As the night unfolds, the patrons must confront the reality that their sanctuary is temporary, and they'll soon return to the outside world.
