Kata, a 43-year-old factory worker, longs to have a child with her secret lover, Joska, a married man. However, he's not interested in the idea. She befriends Anna, a teenage runaway who's been abandoned by her parents since age six. As Kata helps Anna and her boyfriend Sanyi, she becomes invested in the lives of neglected children and decides to adopt a baby from the local children's home.
