Hideki discovers a broken Persocom, a computer in a girl-like form, and decides to repair and care for it. As he works on it, he begins to wonder if Chi, the Persocom, might be a Chobits, a robot said to possess free will.
A small-town boy's academic aspirations are crushed when he's rejected from college, but he perseveres, relocating to Tokyo and enrolling in a prestigious prep school, where he uncovers cutting-edge technology and unexpectedly finds a discarded humanoid robot within his grasp.
