In 1871, renowned poet Paul Verlaine invites 17-year-old prodigy Arthur Rimbaud to live with him and his pregnant wife Mathiltde in Paris. Rimbaud's unconventional behavior disrupts the household and French literary circles, but Verlaine finds the youth inspiring. As their relationship deepens, Verlaine's abuse of Mathiltde worsens, and he and Rimbaud abandon her. The tumultuous relationship is marked by reconciliations and partings, culminating in a 1873 incident that sends one of them to prison.
