Soul Kids background

Soul Kids

A group of young musicians discovers the legendary soul artists of Stax Records, such as Otis Redding and The Staple Singers, and finds inspiration and self-confidence through their music.

In the heart of Memphis, a city plagued by distress, the Stax Music Academy shines as a beacon of hope. Founded in 2000, this institution carries on the legacy of Stax Records, a 1960s soul label that served as a sanctuary and forum for dialogue during the Civil Rights movement. By exploring soul music through after-school programs, teenagers delve into the rich heritage of Black America and discover new pathways to a brighter future.
