Shangku Shelter background

Shangku Shelter

In the northwest Indian Himalayas, the kingdom of Zanskar is cut off from the world for six months each year due to heavy snowfall, home to a small community of approximately 10,000 residents.

In the remote Indian Himalayan kingdom of Zanskar, where locals are snow-bound for six months, a ski school was founded by three friends to improve quality of life and promote mountain sports. Two decades later, they expand to a neighboring town, grappling with the question of preserving the wilderness while providing employment and incentives for locals to stay.
