Richard Pryor stars as Jo Jo Dancer, a comedian who severely burns himself in a drug-related accident. As he lies in the hospital, his spiritual alter ego embarks on a journey through his life, revisiting his childhood in a brothel and his struggles to become a successful comedian. Despite his success, Jo Jo's addiction to substances wreaks havoc on his life, with his spirit trying to intervene and guide his past self towards a better path.
