Boston cop Pally LaMarr retires due to heart problems and is sent away by his wife Charlotte. His half-brother Ray visits and suggests he buy a race horse to lift his spirits. Ray discovers a misdiagnosed champion horse and they plan to win money with it. However, a local mob boss steals the horse to settle a debt. Pally and Ray must retrieve the horse, help a jockey pay off his debt, and win money, all while Pally navigates his feelings for Charlotte.
