Truman Capote, a renowned writer, becomes fascinated with the brutal murder of the Clutter family in Kansas after reading a newspaper article. He and his assistant, Nelle Harper Lee, travel to Kansas to research the story, using Truman's celebrity status and other means to gain access to key individuals, including the police investigator and the suspects, Dick Hickcock and Perry Smith.
