A priest, Ivan, lives in a rural church surrounded by a famous apple tree. He's an optimist who denies reality and believes he's at war with Satan. The rectory serves as a halfway house for recently-paroled convicts, including Adam, a tough neo-Nazi. Despite initial frustration, Adam sets a goal to bake an apple pie, which leads to chaos as the tree's apples are threatened by crows, worms, and lightning.
