In a desperate bid to secure his family's future, the Baron of Chanterelle pressures his timid nephew Lancelot to choose a bride from the village. Escaping the eager suitors, Lancelot seeks refuge in a monastery, where the monks propose a solution: marrying a mechanical doll. However, things take an unexpected turn when the doll maker's daughter, Ossi, is mistaken for the doll and becomes Lancelot's wife.
