As Herman Spooner approaches his 30th birthday, he's still living with his parents in Monrovia, struggling to sell used cars and feeling socially isolated. However, his life takes a turn when he meets Rose, a young woman in need of car repairs, and he becomes smitten. Spooner goes to great lengths to impress Rose, exaggerating his resume and making special arrangements to get her the best service at his car lot. He even convinces her to stay overnight at a local hotel, and later tries to persuade her to extend her visit. But as the relationship unfolds, it's unclear whether Spooner's efforts will lead to a genuine connection or just another fantasy that ultimately fizzles out.
