John Forbes, an insurance adjuster, is feeling unfulfilled in his life and job. His routine is disrupted when he investigates a case involving Mona Stevens, whose boyfriend has stolen from a store insured by Forbes' company. As Forbes collects the stolen gifts, he becomes infatuated with Mona and starts an affair.
