A war surgeon has an important project: to set up an emergency hospital for civilian war victims in Afghanistan. He is accompanied by an old war correspondent who has been reporting from Afghanistan since the Soviet invasion. The documentary follows their journey, from surveying a potential site in February 1999 to setting up the hospital in the village of Anobah, and bears witness to the daily tragedies and hopes for a peaceful alternative to war.
