Inaugural Hobgood Challenge background

Inaugural Hobgood Challenge

A team of elite surfers, driven by a desire to conquer the world's most legendary wave, assembles a group of their most talented protégés to tackle the iconic right-hand wave.

The Inaugural Hobgood Challenge presented by PacSun saw 6 of the world's top junior surfers under 20 compete in Micronesia, hosted by CJ and Damien Hobgood. The event was a Pro Junior Specialty competition, featuring a global cross-section of the next generation of top surfers. The invited surfers included Dusty Payne, Clay Marzo, Eric Geiselman, Dion Atkinson, Owen Wright, and Garut Widiarta. After a week of small swell, the crew finally hit pay dirt with a clean 4-6' swell, allowing the event to take place. In the end, goofy footer Owen Wright took the championship.
