Sebastien Grenier, a French spy, is reawakened after eight years of dormancy following the murder of Zimmer on a Zurich streetcar. He receives a mysterious book with a marked page and meets Jean-Paul Chance, who claims to be his contact. As Grenier investigates, he discovers connections between Chance's wife Anna and left-wing groups, which have claimed responsibility for Zimmer's murder. However, Grenier's efforts are thwarted by a series of murders, including that of his friend Henri Marchand and another agent in Munich. With his wife Anna arrested and then kidnapped, Grenier becomes increasingly entangled in a web of espionage and deceit.
