In the lawless Durango Valley, a notorious outlaw named "The Shadow" is wreaking havoc, and rancher John McKay hires Keene Cordner, despite foreman Tanner's objections. When the sheriff arrives, accusing Keene of murder based on a deputy's testimony, Tanner helps him escape and hides him in a cabin. Consumed by a desire for revenge, Keene vows to track down the real Shadow, now that he's been unfairly branded an outlaw himself.
