German-occupied Czechia, a childless couple, Josef and Marie Cizek, watch in horror as their Jewish employers, the Wieners, are forcibly removed from their home and deported to the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Years later, young David Wiener, the sole survivor, escapes and finds refuge with the Cizeks, who risk their lives to hide him despite the extreme danger. As they struggle to keep the secret from the Germans and their friend Horst, a German collaborator who has a romantic interest in Marie, the Cizeks must make difficult choices and confront the harsh reality of their surroundings.
