Broken Rainbow background

Broken Rainbow

The film tells the poignant story of the Navajo Nation's devastating displacement, as 10,000 people are forcibly relocated from their ancestral homeland in Arizona by the US government.

The documentary examines the history leading to the 1974 passage of P.L. 93-531, which forced the relocation of 10,000 Diné from Hopi land. Behind the scenes, the film argues that it was a power struggle over mining rights, as Peabody Coal used the Hopi tribal council to evict Diné families who had lived in harmony with the Hopi people for centuries.
