In the midst of the Apartheid era, an elderly couple, "Brown", arrives at the Swartkops mud flat, forced out of their shanty town by Afrikaners. With nothing but their belongings, they recall their past, both joyful and tragic, as their relationship unravels over 12-15 hours. Tensions escalate when Lena, despite Boesman's objections, takes in an elderly Xhosa tribesman, leading to a confrontation as a storm approaches.
