Big Miracle background

Big Miracle

A determined journalist reunites with his former environmental activist partner to rescue a group of gray whales stranded in the rapidly freezing Arctic tundra.

In October 1988, a TV reporter in Barrow, Alaska, stumbles upon three California gray whales trapped in the ice, fighting for survival. The whales, a mother, father, and son, are struggling to breathe and will likely die within days. The story gains national attention, prompting Greenpeace and other groups to take action. The governor's office and the White House become involved, and a battle ensues between those who want to save the whales and those who want to exploit them. The indigenous Inupiat people also play a crucial role, as they initially plan to harvest the whales to protect their traditional way of life.
