Beans background

Beans

A drama film tells the true story of a 78-day standoff between two Mohawk communities and government forces in 1990 Quebec.

Summer 1990, in the Mohawk reserve of Kahnawake, 12-year-old Tekahentahkhwa, nicknamed Beans, lives with her parents, Lily and Kania'tariio. Beans is a good girl who follows her mother's guidance, applying to attend Queen Heights Academy, a prestigious school in Montréal. However, her father doubts her motives, thinking she wants to please her mother. The family's lives are disrupted when an armed standoff erupts at the nearby reserve of Kahnesatake, sparked by a land dispute over a proposed golf course expansion on a Mohawk burial ground.
