In 1970s India, the story follows three young people who challenge societal norms of normalcy. Barfi, a hearing and speech impaired boy, falls in love with Shruti, but she marries a "normal" man due to pressure. Years later, their paths cross again as Barfi searches for his autistic love, Jhilmil, while on the run from the police.
