A young boy from a migrant farmworker family in Texas, Marcos faces hardships as his family travels to Minnesota following the crops. He experiences poor living conditions, including no access to water and untreated tuberculosis, and struggles to make ends meet with a daily wage of $15 for adults and half that for children. When his parents leave him in the care of a corrupt couple, Marcos finds solace in a local graveyard and is eventually expelled from school after defending himself.
