In 811 AD, a poor family living deep in the woods, isolated from Birka, faces a desperate situation. The father, Joar, embarks on a Viking raid to secure their survival, leaving his family behind. As days turn into weeks, the family's fear of Joar's disappearance grows, and his oldest daughter, Runa, takes on his responsibilities. Despite her hope for his return, Runa senses a growing evil in the forest, which becomes more apparent when she finds a wounded warrior. As the warrior recovers, Runa learns that he was sent to protect her family from an impending danger and brings news of her father's fate.
