Out-of-work actor Mike Dawson is preoccupied with his new girlfriend Annette, neglecting his teenage son Tod, who is left to run wild. Meanwhile, Stephen Leigh, a teacher, is troubled by his wife's career-driven obsession to have children only after achieving professional success. When Mike goes on tour, Tod is invited to stay with Leigh, who has developed a fondness for the boy.
