In 1814, Regency-era London, 16-year-old Mary Wollstonecraft-Godwin, an aspiring writer, meets 21-year-old poet Percy Bysshe Shelley and begins a torrid relationship despite opposition from her father and stepmother. They flee to live together, accompanied by Mary's stepsister Claire, but their happiness turns to tragedy due to debts, poverty, and the loss of their daughter.
