In the city, a hardworking nurse, Celie, is torn apart by the sudden loss of her five-year-old daughter, Lila, who is hospitalized with meningitis and passes away. Desperate to see her daughter one last time, Celie breaks into the morgue, only to find that Lila's body is missing. She soon discovers that a pathologist, Dr. Rose Casper, has been conducting a secret experiment to reanimate the dead using a pig and Lila's body as the perfect specimen. Celie teams up with Dr. Casper, and together they work to keep Lila alive, but their efforts are threatened when Dr. Casper collapses and loses her ability to carry a pregnancy. Celie must now find a new way to keep Lila alive, and she becomes increasingly desperate when the only compatible donor, Emily, decides to deliver at another hospital.
