In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, tens of thousands of house pets were left to perish in flooded neighborhoods across the Gulf Coast. Tom McPhee documented the crisis, spending four days at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center photographing thousands of rescued animals. For 16 months, he captured the historic event, trying to understand what went wrong.
