In the 1890s Canadian wilderness, a prospector named Sandy Shaw, accompanied by his young son Rick and their wolf-dog Whisky, settles in a small snow-covered town to claim a vacant cabin on Eagle's Nest mountain and search for gold. They soon befriend a grizzled fur trapper, Dollar, who joins them and helps them fend off a ruthless businessman, Barney Taft, who seeks to steal their gold for himself and his gang.
