Doris Parker's house party brings together friends to receive mail from their "adopted" soldiers in France. One friend suggests she write to Harry Townsend, a soldier with no family or friends, and she sends him a note. Harry's letters spark a romance in Doris, causing her to reject Captain Jack Tims' advances. When Harry is wounded, his farewell note prompts Doris to visit him, and she nurses him back to health, eventually discovering he's not the soldier in her photograph. Despite this, she marries him after the armistice.
