John Hewitt, a respected bank comptroller, wins a small fortune at the racetrack after a successful bet. The thrill of easy money leads him to frequent the track and make larger bets, but his winning streak soon turns into a devastating losing streak. Desperate to recoup his losses, John begins to embezzle funds from the bank, getting deeper and deeper into debt.
