In 1920s Algeria, a curious cat belonging to a rabbi gains the power of speech after eating a family parrot, embarking on an unexpected journey of self-discovery as it seeks to convert to Judaism.

In 1920s Algiers, Rabbi Sfar faces multiple challenges: his daughter Zlabya is growing up, his cat that killed parrots has started talking, and a mysterious painter arrives in a box from Russia, barely alive. The painter is on a quest to find a mythical city in Africa, and he convinces the Rabbi to join him on an epic journey with an Arab Sheikh, a Russian millionaire, and his eccentric cat.
