After his fiancée jilts him, successful lawyer Geoffrey Sherwood embarks on a drinking spree and accidentally marries a woman named Miriam Brady. Despite initial reservations, they decide to make their marriage work. Their landlady, a former showgirl, offers to help Miriam improve her social standing. Meanwhile, Geoffrey is pursued by his former fiancée Valentine, but Miriam stands her ground, telling her off in a forceful manner.
