In 1937, during the Second Sino-Japanese War, 452 Chinese soldiers, led by Lieutenant Colonel Xie Jinyuan, defend the Sihang Warehouse against a massive Japanese army. Despite being vastly outnumbered, the defenders fight valiantly, repelling attack after attack. As the Chinese soldiers' situation becomes increasingly dire, the citizens of Shanghai's International Settlement, initially uninvolved, are stirred by patriotism and begin to assist the defenders.
