Uncle Bump, a popular children's book author, struggles with writer's block and excessive drinking. His niece Martha, a talented illustrator, wins a contest to work on his next book. However, Greg's initial enthusiasm turns into a drunken haze, and he enlists the help of a troubled youth named Danny to pretend to be his son and demonstrate the pressures of being a famous author.
