In the midst of Manhattan's vibrant beat scene, three siblings navigate their lives, each searching for their place in the world. Benny, a free-spirited hipster, is struggling to find direction, while his sister Lelia, who appears more Caucasian than African-American, is vulnerable and on the verge of falling in love. Their older brother Hugh, a talented singer, faces self-doubt and rejection, with only his agent Rupert believing in his potential. As their stories intertwine, Lelia's heart is broken when her love interest Tony abandons her due to prejudice. Can the power of family and friendship bring comfort to Lelia, purpose to Benny, and confidence to Hugh, ultimately revealing that life is more than just shadows?
