In 1944 California, during wartime, Rosie Warren and her friend Vera Watson share a small rental room with two other defense plant workers, Charlie and Kelly. The room is part of a household filled with Grandma Quill's family members, including her grandchildren and her daughter Stella, who is separated from her husband Clem.
