Meteorologist Ted Cooper is a popular weatherman at WKJU Channel 7 News in Corning, NY. He's been offered a job at a bigger market in Buffalo, closer to his hometown, but hasn't accepted yet, showing loyalty to his current boss. When he returns home for Christmas, he agrees to help his sister with a fundraiser, but his coworkers are skeptical about his happiness, given his past Christmas disasters. During these disasters, he runs into his high school crush, Dr. Hope Miller, now an emergency room physician, who's recently returned to Lackawanna. They go on a date, but their budding romance is threatened by misunderstandings and Ted's overly positive outlook, which Hope finds disturbing.
