La strada

A young girl, Gelsomina, is sold to a traveling showman, Zampano, for a small sum of money and some food. Zampano showcases his physical strength by breaking a chain wrapped around his chest, performing in village squares for meager donations. He teaches Gelsomina a drum roll, but treats her poorly, punishing her when she tries to escape. Eventually, they join a small circus where they meet a tightrope walker who encourages Gelsomina to reevaluate her circumstances.
