The Mexican afro community comprises just 1% of the total population, with their cultural identity largely overlooked and marginalized. LA NEGRADA, a groundbreaking film, is the first Mexican fiction movie to be shot entirely within one of these black communities, featuring local residents rather than professional actors. This project aims to amplify their voices and bring attention to their previously underrepresented experiences.
La Negrada
The first Mexican feature film to focus on the Afro-Mexican community, La Negrada, showcases the daily lives of people from various towns in Oaxaca's Costa Chica region, all played by local residents.
