After the Civil War, a Confederate soldier named Matt Weaver returns to his hometown only to discover that his property has been sold by the town's powerful boss, Sam Brewster. Brewster hires a notorious gunfighter, Jules Gaspard d'Estaing, to deal with Weaver, but d'Estaing's unconventional methods surprisingly bring peace to the troubled town.
