A former naval officer, John Paul Steckler, is tasked with sailing a destroyer to the United States for decommissioning after World War II ends. Years later, the ship's whereabouts are unknown, leaving John Paul with an ultimatum: find the ship or pay for it. Meanwhile, his new wife, Prudence, struggles to understand his absence from their honeymoon.
