Four childhood friends from Harlem, now in their early thirties, embark on a 30-plus-hour road trip to a vacation spot in a Mercury Monarch. The group consists of an FBI agent, a mechanic, an African-American studies teacher, and a doctor. During the trip, they engage in playful banter and reminiscing about their past, mostly centered around sex. However, their discussions also turn to racial politics, leading to heated arguments. The tension escalates when they stop at a roadside diner, where Phil gets into a physical altercation with a white man. As they leave the diner, they become lost on a county road and attract the attention of deputy sheriffs who are searching for four drug dealers who attempted to rob the diner.
