In 1930s Los Angeles, Arturo Bandini, a writer, arrives in the Bunker Hill neighborhood seeking inspiration for his novel. Despite struggling with poverty and racism, he finds solace in his writing and his relationships with Camilla Lopez, a beautiful and self-assured Mexican woman, and H.L. Mencken, a renowned journalist. As Arturo's jealousy and fears grow, he must confront his own demons to move forward.
